DIY Wall Hanging

I had so much fun making this for Zion’s room and wanted to share how i did it so you can do it too for your home!

This bad boy is MASSIVE. Now you can make yours small or large, but I chose to do a big one because eventually when we move into our home (next year sometime) I want it for one of the walls so I thought I’d go big and use it behind Zi’s crib for this season.

DIY WALL HANGING INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1:

Go get yourself something to hang your yarn on. I purchased 3 branches at Hobby Lobby for $7.99 (the 50% code was on branches that week.) The one I used was a pretty white birch branch.

Processed with VSCO with c9 preset

Step 2: Ready for it….? Go out and get yourself a MASSIVE amount of yarn. Like massive. I used almost an entire cone. I would say…close to 1,000 yards. Not sure. But remember, my wall hanging is roughly 3 ft x 4 ft. It ain’t small. I used Ashland and Bay thick and thin yarn.  They are the best company with the largest amount of yarn to use. My yarn came unconditioned so I had to wash it first. TAKE NOTE: This will add a whole day to your process. If your yarn comes unconditioned it is important to soak it and let it air dry before using. It gets the oils off and puffs up a bit more. Let it air dry in the shower or outside hanging on hangers until dry (overnight should do it). NOTE: Pre cut your yarn before you soak it. It gets mushy and tangled and if it’s pre cut it is easier to piece apart to hang.

Step 3: This applies in between step 2.  Pre cut your yarn.  Okay, so if you you want a 2 ft long wall hanging, you need to cut your yarn 4 feet long because you will loop it on the branch and thus slashing the length in half and doubling it.  Cut 1 piece and then use that piece over and over as a guide as you cut. I just cut until I thought I had enough. I ended up having to cut more. Okay back to the washing and drying ( ONLY APPLIES TO UNCONDITIONED YARN).. After it dries you can begin. OR if your yarn is conditioned, go ahead and start looping.

Step 4: Loop your yarn on your branch.  See how it’s laid in the above picture? Great grab the loop part and place it under the branch where you are going to attach it. Now take the ends and and loop it through and the first loop around the branch. I hope that makes sense. It’s super easy so if you find it’s complicated, I didn’t do a great job explaining it so here’s a ini video below.  BUT first, I tied on my string I was going to hang it with so that I could loop over the string where i tied it on the branch to hide it. Okay, loop, loop, loop. Super close together.

Step 5: Begin knotting, braiding, twisting, etc. randomly and make it your own creation. This is where is gets fun and you can let your creative juices flow.  I did all of the above.

Step 6: Hang your masterpiece!

Happy Halloween!

Our first Halloween with our little man!  So much fun! I’m all about traditions. Whatever the Holiday season is for you, make it about family, filled with love and ALOT of fun! We dressed up, visited family, had a pizza party with friend’s and passed out candy to the cutest little kids on the block.  I am so excited to create traditions with my family this Holiday season. Making memories to cherish in your soul forever is so much of what life is all about.  It is our goal as parents to do the things our children will look back and remember forever, or see photos of and think, man I had a great childhood, I want to do that for my kids and so the pattern continues. Okay and now…….

Featuring Zion the lion, the lion tamer and the lion poop picker upper….Ain’t that the truth.  Oh, plus that is his buddy Roar as a Hillbilly.  We love our friends the Rowen’s so much we all dressed up for a photo op and made pizza and had good, solid hangs. Find your people, people and love them well! Oh and p.s.s. see that batman onesie? He wore that all day. Under his costume because…Why the heck not.

Zion is 4 months! What I’ve Learned So Far + Our Fav Toys!

I can’t believe Zion has been Earth side 4 months! It’s almost Halloween and I can’t wait to show you guys his outfit! This pumpkin outfit was for a little fall festival but his Halloween outfit… oh man I can’t wait! Anyways, he’s already 4 months and what did we do with all our time without him? Spenc and I were talking about that yesterday and literally laughing. We thought, how did we ever do life without him? We must’ve been so bored! Life is like a million times better with Zi.  It’s amazing. Things I’ve learned so far…

  1. Be brave. In mamahood, as a woman, as a person, and a wife. Just be brave.
  2. Find what works for you. Do what works. Co-sleep, crib, CIY, comfort nurse, bottle, breast….whatever. Do what works for you and your family. No pressure, no stress.
  3. Literally do not care what anyone thinks about you or your life. (This is like a general…”Please learn this no matter how old you are, kids or no kids” advice, but especially when you have a baby. They watch everything. Do you want them growing up watching a fearful person or a brave, happy person? Just do it, baby. Go do it. Go get your nails done with the potential that your baby cries the whole time. Nurse on the go. Go to nice restaurants with your baby. Do your life.
  4. Your attitude effects there attitude and emotions. Check yourself before you …wreck your baby’s mood. For real though.  Your atmosphere effects them. Positively or negatively. You are watering your baby with the things you say, do and react to daily. Try to argue with your spouse in the other room. LOL.
  5. Don’t stop enjoying what you like to do now that you are raising tiny humans. You did not die when you had a kid. Keep the hobbies even if you literally have no time for them but once every few months. Put yourself together if you want. Find a way that works for you and your baby. Doings is tough at times. You wanna do your make up but the baby is freaking out. Don’t give up. Find what works for the baby and push through to do it. I know it seems to insignificant but you’ll be so proud of yourself for getting through it and not throwing in the towel every time an obstacle comes your way. It’s so much more than getting your make up on. LOL. It’s you being able to get through tough situations and finding out how to maneuver your life with a new addition. If you gave in every time baby freaked out, you’d hardly get out the door. Wear him, stroll him, set him up in a bouncer, a rocker, on the floor, and get on with what you need to get done. AKA the dishes and your teeth brushed and maybe some mascara can I get an amen?
  6. Enjoy every day. It goes by fast! Take the million photos, record the million videos, do the outfits, do the fun things. Have fun, don’t sweat the small stuff. Let everything…e v e r y t h i n g roll off your back. Life is too short and time with your LO is even shorter.  With that being said…i’m gunna go play with my baby! <3

Okay so Mister Man loves to play, chew, slobber, shake everything like every baby this age and he carries Plan Toys USA wooden keys around with him everywhere! It’s hilarious!  But we love their wooden non toxic toys because if we can avoid toxins, then we certainly will! The toys range for all ages and they have got some serious cute, fun stuff along with games and interactive learning as they get older. Other things Zion is a HUGE fan of are the chewable books like this. They are called indestructibles. Fitting. They cannot tear, are toxin free, water proof, cannot rip, can be chewed on, slobbered on, crinkled etc. Zion is kinda obsessed and I don’t blame him. He also loves his bouncer and his standing gym. We rotate through out the day and then when all else fails, we go strolling in his stroller which He is also a huge fan of. Hey, whatever works. You wanna play in your stroller all day buddy? I’ll milk that while it lasts! I’ll talk about his stroller in a future post and why we love is SO.DANG.MUCH.

Oh, and his pumpkin outift? Target!

Pumpkin Patchin’

Fall is so fun! All the colors change, it ushers in the Holidays and it’s filled with another year of costumes, thanksgiving, lots of yummy food, the honoring of grace, new beginnings and with all that, fun things to do! When I was pregnant, I couldn’t wait to bring my baby along and have him experience all the magic of the seasons. It’s so fun! So first off for the season…boppin’ around the pumpkin patch.

Let’s be honest, it was way more fun for us parents then for him, but we love introducing him to new things all the time. I feel like even the little things shape him. Along with looking at rows and patches of pumpkins, we saw goats, chickens, and sheep and Zion was memorized.  We are coming to find out he is not really a scared baby….other than when I sneeze. Haha! What are some of your favorite things to do as a family during the seasons?

My Post Partum Recovery And Belly Binding With Bellefit

Hi Friends!

So it’s been 6 weeks that I had Zion! Wow, time flies. I am definitely savoring every moment, and reminding myself in the hard moments that they too, are precious.  I want to share with you all what I have been doing post partum to get back into shape and strong not only emotionally and mentally, but of course physically.

Mentally:

I highly reccomend encapsulating your placenta. Honestly, I felt a HUGE difference. You ask how since I was on it? Well I skipped a dose and felt myself emotionally very, very how do I put this…off? unstable? vulnerable? Raw? I mean, you are raw regardless because of all the love and the newness and a new life and changes, but the hormones in the placenta from my body, helped my transition back, SO MUCH SMOOTHER. I had 0 post partum and I had major baby blues in my first trimester, so I thought maybe my hormones would throw me into some PPD, but I had none. I was so stable. In fact, I could handle the emotions that rose up (which are totally healthy and real and apart of life if you are a breathing human) with each roll of emotion, I could almost appreciate it and not get swallowed up in it if that makes sense. I got them less than 24 hours after birth and took them until the bottle was done. 2 capsules, 3 times a day.

I reccomend it to any new mama to help with coping and transitioning into your new life with your new babe.

Body:

First, let’s talk about the post baby body. What a beautiful thing our body is, and no matter how your body takes form after baby, it is beautiful and you should thank your body and love your body for carrying and nurturing life!  For me, I have always been a very avid fitness gal, so getting back to my routine, simply because I took it easy during pregnancy and really nurtured myself, I was SO looking forward to start kicking butt in the gym!  That being said, I started off S L O W and I am still going slow, although I do go 6 days a week now. It is my morning routine with Zion after his morning feed and he knocks out the the sound of the machines. I started back to just walking for a few miles on the treadmill and starting lifting light weights again. I actually was able to start after  2 1/2 weeks.  I am not saying you should, please take advice from your care practitioner and listen to your body!  Getting some blood flowing felt so good.

Let’s talk about Diastasis Recti

I had it, quite big too.  I found out around 4- 5 months, my abs had separated, which by the way, it 100% totally normal and very, very common. In fact, MOST women have this during pregnancy and never take time to restore it so down the line the “pooch” is there quite permanently and they can’t figure out why no matter what they do, it’s still there.  Diastasis Recti is responsible for the pooch.  The goal is to HEAL that post partum through specific transverse ab exercises or through physical therapy.  Pre delivery, because I had known I had it, I looked into belly binding and post partum belly girdle to wear.  I found Bellefit, and I am SO glad I did. Below are some photos of my progress.  It completely helped heal my diastasis.  I went from 3 1/2 finger spread to 1 /12 in 5 weeks. I am still working on it, but that is HUGE healing.  Ask anyone with diastasis or read into it. The girdles are specifically designed for post partum and helped with compression for shrinking my uterus and support for my back.  It felt so good to wear when I put it on because my body so desired support.  I felt like the baby actually stabilized and held my body up and when he was out, I felt weak in my back and core like i would fold over.  This helped with that tremendously. I HIGHLY recommend doing this after each baby.

Stretch marks

I didn’t get these until the last month of pregnancy…he was a huge baby and I carried ALL my weight in my belly.  Plus, he has fallen forward and I ended up having to wear a belly brace during my labor to prop him up.  SO, I ended up with a few light white stretchies (tiger stripes) and wanted to work on getting those minimized.  I used a collagen supplement on my skin as well as a brush, lotion and stretch mark cream.  Currently, you can hardly see them and with the girdle and my regime, I am back in my bikini. My skin still has some tightening up to do, so with collagen application and supplementation and strengthening my core with exercise, it will come.  I definitely want to be in excellent shape before each child, so that my body has the memory to go back to and that I am strong during my pregnancy and labor.

This is what I am using:

Stromaderm from Biocell.  It is hyaluronic acid, collagen and chondroitin. Key for perfect skin.

Scar cream. The ingredients are clean and amazing.

A gentle skin massage brush to encourage new skin production.

Diet

I am eating how I do normally, in fact, nothing has changed from pre to preg to post.  Organic, non gmo, low sugar and I eat a higher fat and protein, lower carb diet, but I will get the hamburger with the bun when I want 😉 and fries.

LOTS OF WATER.

Photos of Progress with Bellefit

So I started the day after my birth with the girdle and wore it pretty much 24/7 (took it off to shower) for the first 2 weeks. Then I would take it off for an hour or 2 as I would go out at times. Most times I wore it out under clothes. I also wore it to the gym. At 6 weeks, I only now where it to sleep. I can say at 6 weeks post partum, I am almost back to my pre baby tummy, minus the abs. :)-.  Those will come once I start incorporating ab work outs after my diastasis heals completely. I just started doing more isolated ab movements like balancing on the half dome and wall planks with a wall push up.

This was after wearing it 36 hours.  3 days post partum.

IMG_8427 IMG_8428

This was with it off at 3 days post partum.

IMG_8512 IMG_8552

This was just at 1 1/2 weeks post partum

IMG_8743 IMG_8744

This was at 2 weeks post partum

IMG_8935

This is at just under 5 weeks post partum. IMG_9833 IMG_9844

I can’t wait to update you guys more on my progress in the future! I would 100% recommend a girdle, gently exercise and eating healthy post partum, but my biggest recommendation is to get fit BEFORE baby, so your body has the memory to come back to with the help of the tools I suggested.

Please check out www.bellefit.com for all your girdle questions and to see their full line and read more!

Some Of My Favorite Onesies

Some of my favorite onesies with Alber Road Children’s Wear

These beautiful onesies are some of my favorites on Zion. The designs are so unique, SO CUTE and the material is sourced locally and responsibly.  I seriously can’t get over her designs. You can’t find this anywhere. What is SUPER special is that Sarah, the owner and designer or Alber Road Children’s Wear, hand paints custom organic swaddles! WHAT!? This whale was custom painted just for Zion and each one is unique.  What an amazing talent and gift!  Sarah is such a sweetie and she lives in the woods in Idaho.  Getting to hear her story touched me; where she gets her inspiration, how started etc. (You can read below all about her).  Can you handle how cute the ‘Eat your greens’ onesie is?! I saw it and immediately needed it! Swoon worthy clothes from this lady and her brand right here!  Stay tuned on my Instagram as in August I will be hosting a give away with her and you can win her new design coming to her shop!

IMG_8634 IMG_8729DSC_0673 DSC_0674 DSC_0675 DSC_0680

Words from the owner, Sarah:
What inspires you to choose the patterns for you clothing?
“I really draw a lot of inspiration for my prints from my daily life. The nautical style, of course, not so much because this area of Idaho is considered a fertile desert, but I dream of water and mermaids! I work with several artists spread over the world that I’ve developed a friendship with. Probably my most popular artist is this wonderful mama in Australia who is a virtual artist goddess! My other artists hail from the US (west coast, predominantly) and Canada (BC).
Do you hand paint your swaddles yourself? You are an artist! Tell me a little bit about that?
I have developed some of my own prints (the Love, Idaho series), but am still learning the intricacies of fabric design. My swaddles are handpainted — I LOVE taking a time out from production to work on my creative side. My mother is a watercolor painter (and quite talented!), but growing up, I was not the artistic one in the family. I’m so grateful some of her artistry dust happened to sprinkle down on me and I’m realizing it later in life! Poor Mom. She always told me when I was a little girl, “Why can’t you be more lady like? Why can’t you sit still?”. I was the total tomboy, fighting boys in the schoolyard, spending all day on my horses or hanging out of trees — it wasn’t until I discovered I couldn’t have children that I began to take a real interest in the domestic arts. I took up quilting and sewing baby clothes for my friends (I think it helped me cope — I was at the age where everyone I knew was getting married and having their first kids!), and it just blossomed from there. My mom has always been proud of me and accepted me for my quirks, but now I’m not as likely to be found, brand new dress ripped to tatters, at the bottom of a tree. She probably developed a few grey hairs just trying to rescue me out of precarious situations I put myself in.
It’s a less exciting life now, but I tell you what! So many less broken bones.”
This is the view down the road!  Sarah lives in the woods, but the Palouse is all around.

Peace of Mind For This New Mama With Owlet

Mamas out there, I am such a hoverer! I hover over my baby and check his breathing about every 10 minutes and that’s when he’s in the same room as me!  When I found the owlet I realized it’s just the extra peace of mind we need so this mama can rest assured baby is sleeping safe and sound.  This monitoring sock is seriously cool. It monitors his heart rate and oxygen levels and connects to your phone with an app so it is designed to alert you if anything changes. Now I can put Zion to sleep in his room and not want to run in every 10 mins to check on him, I can just check on him with my phone!  So much peace of mind knowing it is monitoring my baby so I can rest and take the extra edge off myself with all the new changes.

You can find out more about the owlet at www.owletcare.com and get $20 off your purchase here

Swaddling My Baby

After buying a billion swaddles during pregnancy, I come to find out, right now at least, Zion does not like to be swaddled….except for 1 swaddle. The Ollie Swaddle. He likes to stretch, kick, wiggle, and move his arms and hands. The Ollie Swaddle let’s Zion stretch against material that moves and gives.  The material is amazing. It stretches and gives way for him to flex and build his little muscles and reflexes. Plus, it is SO easy to get him swaddled, with simple velcro-it’s done.  Check out www.theollieworld.com to read all about how and why this swaddle was created.  If there is a swaddle that would be considered the Bentley of swaddles…this is it! Look at their cute packaging! It is truly beautiful from start to swaddle!
